DIAMONDS IN THE BANK®. THE VALUE OF RARITY

The value of a natural diamond is directly proportional to its rarity.
It has always been this way and it will be even more so in the future, due to the drastic reduction in the number of natural diamonds. A study by Bain & Co. estimates that the natural diamond mines will be completely exhausted by 2030.

Diamond Love Bond believes that the value of a diamond depends first and foremost on its perfect quality, which accentuates its rarity.

Diamond Love Bond has created the most exclusive selection of natural diamonds worldwide: from 0.10 to more than 10 carats, D-E Colors, FL (Flawless) and IF (Internally Flawless) Purity, Triple Excellent Quality cut, None Fluorescent, certified by the GIA gemological Institute of America and Rapaport IDC – Investment Diamond Certificate.

Following are the selection criteria in order to distinguish “rare” diamonds from “common” ones.

The internationally used color scale created in the 50’s by the GIA ranges from D to Z.
The first three letters classify natural diamonds that are completely colorless.
From the letter G to Z diamonds tend to have a yellowish or brownish color that becomes increasingly more evident and reduces their beauty and therefore value.
The “colorless” D-E diamonds that also have the highest purity IF (Internally Flawless), the Triple Excellent cut quality and are None Fluorescent are extremely rare and represent but 0,33% of all natural diamonds.

There are two additional perfection conditions that make a natural diamond more rare: the first depends on whether the purity is classified as FL (Flawless) a notch above IF.

The official GIA website states: “it’s possible to spend an entire lifetime in the jewelry business without ever seeing one.”

The second condition is the Type llA classification of diamonds, which Martin Rapaport refers to as “they are so rare that they are barely considered in the market supply.”

We can therefore say that extremely rare “colorless” diamonds are in the D category – FL – Triple Excellent – None Fluorescent – Type llA.

The rarity of natural diamonds is the main difference between them and synthetic diamonds, those produced in a laboratory that will become more and more available with lowering prices.
